Following the departure of Scott Dene, Heidi Mather has been appointed as the new Head Squash Pro at the Missouri Athletic Club.
The Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School, Parent Email Bulletin has the following announcement.
"Head of School Lisa Lyle has announced that thanks to the determination, generosity and vision of Bob Hermann '70 and a group of lead donors, construction of a new squash facility on the MICDS campus will soon be underway. The donors have pledged funds for the cost for construction, endowing the facility and programming costs for the School to launch the new sport.
The MICDS Board of Trustees approved the proposal to pursue development of the squash facility last year. The facility will be designed and constructed using only funds from donors with no outlay of capital from the School. In keeping with the guidelines endorsed by the Board, the donors have selected Gene Mackey as the architect for the new building, and Northstar Management has agreed to provide full program management for the construction of the facility. Construction bids will be obtained once architectural drawings are complete and proper permits and approvals have been secured.
The new facility will include five squash courts and will be constructed adjacent to the McDonnell Athletic Center (MAC) on the south end of the MICDS campus. The goal is to complete construction in early 2011.
Special thanks to Bob Hermann for his leadership gift and for his role in securing gifts from others, including Vivian Reisinger in memory of her late husband Walter, for whom the championship court will be named; and from Drew Baur ’62, Charles Cella ’54, Ollie Langenberg ’29, and Bruce Olson, for whom the other four courts will be named.
The MICDS Athletic and Physical Education Departments are eager to launch a squash program, and our student athletes will benefit enormously from access to the new state-of-the-art facility. MICDS will launch squash as a winter sport for boys and girls in the upcoming school year."
Mike Puertas (314-361-0288) has been working behind the scenes to help make this long hoped for, massive addition to the squash facilities in St. Louis, a reality.
